Here is a very simple, easy-to-read, explanation of how to lose weight – and keep it off. It is based on the recommendations of nearly all acknowledged experts and backed by major research studies.
To lose weight effectively:
- Burn up more calories (energy) than you consume – eat less, get active
- Consume most of your calories in the form of complex carbohydrates such a cereals, rice, pasta, and whole-wheat breads
- Consume modest amounts of lean protein – fish, skinless chicken, and soy are good sources of lean protein
- Do not consume more than 30 per cent of your daily calories as fat, and avoid saturated (animal) fats as much as possible. In short, eat less fat.
And to keep it off?
- Keep doing the above, only make sure you eat foods that you enjoy.
Was that too long?
Try this: eat less – eat less fat – get active.
It's not easy. It's difficult. Many people struggle. Know that these principles are widely regarded as the most likely to succeed. Anything else you hear is likely to be unsound, controversial, commercial, or even dangerous. Good luck.
