About Rugby in Australia
Rugby Union and Rugby League are both major codes in Australia, combining physical contact, athleticism, and strategic team play. Australia competes at the highest level in both codes, and grassroots participation is strong from juniors through to veterans' competitions.
Getting Started
Rugby clubs across Australia run junior development programs and adult competitions at all grades. Touch football provides a non-contact introduction to the basic skills of the game. Rugby Australia and the NRL both have 'club finder' tools to help you locate your nearest club.
Rugby in Australia
Rugby Union is strongest in New South Wales, Queensland, and the ACT, while Rugby League dominates in NSW and QLD. The Super Rugby Pacific and NRL competitions draw massive national audiences. Find rugby playing partners and clubs near you on Sports Match Maker.
