About Fencing in Australia
Fencing is a dynamic combat sport contested with three weapons — foil, épée, and sabre — that demands lightning-fast reflexes, tactical intelligence, and athletic precision. It is one of only five sports to have featured at every modern Olympic Games.
Getting Started
Fencing Australia affiliated clubs run beginner classes for all ages and provide equipment for initial lessons. Starting with the foil is traditional, as it teaches fundamental footwork and blade work. Club membership typically includes equipment hire until you are ready to invest in your own gear.
