About Skiing in Australia
Skiing is one of Australia's most popular winter sports, drawing thousands of enthusiasts to the snowfields each year. Whether you prefer carving down groomed runs, tackling moguls, or exploring the backcountry, skiing offers an exhilarating blend of speed, technique, and breathtaking alpine scenery.
Getting Started
Getting started is easy — beginner lessons are available at all major resorts and typically cover the basics of balance, turning, and stopping within a single day. Hiring equipment on-site means you don't need to invest in gear until you're sure the sport is right for you. Joining a ski club is a great way to meet like-minded people, share transport costs, and access group lessons.
Skiing in Australia
Australia's main ski regions are in the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales (Thredbo, Perisher) and the Victorian Alps (Mt Buller, Falls Creek, Mt Hotham). The season typically runs from June to September. Use Sports Match Maker to find skiing partners in your state and make the most of every snow day.
